When I look at my work, I believe it has a firm basis in the modern art history. Certainly the modern art of the 20th century has formed me and with me my work. One cannot separate these things. The art that I like and value is the world in which I can find my own idiom for my work.

I admire and artist like Brancusi because he can say exactly what is needed, with a simplicity in form and material. That is what I also aim for; to express with the simpelest means possible what I need to. That which is very much of my own generation, is the personal in my work. My pieces are a sculptural reflection of my inner life, and not consciously commentary on my surroundings.

I do not know whose line it is, but it stuck with me:
"Perfection will only very rarely lead to art, it is the dark suffering of the artist that causes a longing, and that longing makes art." I believe that together the technique, form and emotion can lead to art, and in this the emotion will always be the power behind it that makes it necessary.

The porcelain objects are made from a porcelain from Limoge, France. The work is biscuit fired til 1050 degrees Celsius, then sandpapered lightly and then fired in a reduced atmosphere in the gaskiln til 1300-1320 degrees Celsius. The work is made by hand and pinchbuilt to a very fine and thin wall. Whether or not on a supporting form, I place thin strips of porcelain in circles or other patterns on their side. Then one by one I put the partitions in between the strips, so they will be able to stand more firmly. Then I pinchbuild the strips upward till they are really thin. Where needed, I will place more partitions upward. As soon as the work is finished it can dry, even fastened if need be, for the porcelain is so thin that it can take quite a lot.

The garden seats are made of red or white firing stoneware that is frost-resistant. I build up such a work as a whole, after which I cut it into pieces. Those pieces I put back together for the work to dry as one piece. After the biscuit fire I glaze certain parts and fire them up to 1220 degrees celsius.
I put the pieces together on the spot where it will remain, with a special glue. I make these works on order, and it is important to me that each gardenseat or similar object results in an unique object. And I make sure of each seat to be comfortable.Special wishes of the customer are incorporated into the design.
